Coronavirus has turned the world upside down in a matter of months and has also wreaked havoc on many people’s mental health. For teachers, students, and parents, stress, and anxiety is especially pronounced. No matter where in the world you are, some aspect of your life has changed.

Dr. Danielle Einstein, a nationally recognized psychologist in Australia, is known for her work around uncertainty, both relative to uncertainty in our daily lives but also on a larger scale, such as what we see with the pandemic. She has been developing programs to enhance emotional health at schools based on fear of uncertainty since 2013. Dr. Einstein is also regularly called on by mainstream media in Australia to provide her expert opinion.

Alongside International Education Advisor Dr. Helen Wright, who has worked with schools worldwide, Dr. Einstein has launched COVID-19: Chilled and Considerate Bootcamp. The boot camp, first developed for Australian schools, will also be supportive to American teachers, students, and parents, given the pandemic’s severity in the United States.

Dr. Einstein attributes a portion of modern-day society’s struggle to adapt to change and uncertainty to their need for consistent validation. For example, seeking answers in Google or endlessly scrolling in social media waiting for the right post to provide the perfect solution. Unfortunately, these habits can often compound stress around uncertainty versus help.

Einstein suggests that rather than seek immediate validation, instead, make peace with the feelings of uncertainty and learn to recognize what she dubs “uncertainty bombs” going off in your head.

Through her boot camp, she wants to remind people, particularly young people, that uncertainty is everywhere. The Chilled and Considerate Bootcamp helps students recognize their vulnerabilities and understand how to navigate their COVID-19 fears best. The program contains a one-hour online course for parents and several clear school programs to minimize stress, worry, and anxiety.

Images, meditations, journals, and videos are just some of the components of the program, which is to serve not only students and teachers but also parents and anyone struggling with uncertainty.

With an endless stream of information coming via mainstream news, social media, and other sources, the waves of uncertainty can often feel overwhelming (and continuous). Through Dr. Einstein’s program, participants will gain a stronger sense of self-awareness and the proper tools to help them tackle their uncertainty head-on.
