We list the best large, posh SUVs currently on the market.

The Range Rover engines vary from a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol with 271bhp, to a 567bhp supercharged 5.0-litre V8, while in-between you’ll come across a 334bhp V8 petrol, and a 395bhp six-cylinder petrol, yet another supercharged V8 model with 517bhp and now a plug-in hybrid model too, capable of over 75mpg.

The range-topping Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid packs 671bhp and can be capable of 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds.

That’s true supercar baiting land, but even the entry-level 335bhp Cayenne still manages the standard sprint in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 152mph.

Although BMW’s SUV line-up is presently one of the biggest in the business the X7 marks totally new territory. This is the Bavarian brand’s first Range Rover sized SUV, which is an affordable entry into this list everything considered.

With prices starting at just over #70,000 for the 335bhp six-cylinder X7 xDrive 40i model, it’s around #10,000 less than the basic asking cost of a Range Rover Vogue, as you receive a very similar degree of cabin technology and distance for the money.

It skimps on quality a bit to achieve this, with all the X7’s cabin setting more closely related to its smaller and saloon bodied siblings. And it won’t venture off as far as the Range Rover either.

The whole XC90 line-up uses four-cylinder engines, so buyers looking for a bit of presence below the bonnet will have to look elsewhere. It’s far from the sharpest SUV to push, but it’s one of the very comfy and will be cheaper to run than many of its rivals.

It is still among the most modern feeling options also, with a trendy, scandincavian influence to the cabin layout.

It’s strong on technician, also for infotainment lovers the Audi is a leading option. Touchscreen everything isn’t for everybody, but there is little denying the Q7’s new dual-screen installment with haptic feedback, combined with the impressive digital cockpit display isn’t among the sharpest looking and slickest infotainment setups on the market.

Mercedes has aimed to generate the new GLS that the’S-Class of SUVs’, and while it’s not exactly the poster-boy of this luxury SUV market as the S-Class is in the limo section, there’s a clear likeness, based simply on how elegant the GLS is on the go.

Few SUVs are far better suited to long-distance cruising, while the GLS can also be adept off-road too, when fitted with an optional off-road bundle.

Urus is among the fastest SUVs on earth, capable of reeling off the sprint to 62mph from standstill in only 3.6 seconds, while high speed comes in at 190mph. And this supercar stressing performance comes with a little bit of off-road skill too.

Space is limited to space for five, with the sporty back end cutting off a bit of headroom. But this really is an SUV aimed more in the drag-strip compared to green-lanes and family excursions in relaxation and convenience.

Tesla’s Autopilot feature is still one of the most in-depth and broadly used semi-autonomous driving assistants out there, although the huge 17-inch central touchscreen display is going to be a major hit with tech fans.

It’s not the ideal luxury SUV on the market to drive, however, and the inside is starting to feel a bit dated in places too.

The company’s first SUV is directed more towards people who will climb behind the wheel as opposed to the chauffeur marketplace. To the end, it is excellent to drive also, while Rolls has worked hard to make sure that the Cullinan is not just a leviathan for your street – it’s exceptionally capable off-road too.

Throw in trademark Rolls’ personalisation, and it’s clear the Cullinan is still an SUV worthy of its own prestigious badge.

We list the best large, posh SUVs currently on the market. 1.
